From back to basic to back to nature

In October 2025, we visited the glamping site REBL Outdoor, located in the tranquil village of Jubbega in Friesland. For this glamping site, we supplied three all-season camping pods, two hot tubs, and a barrel sauna. What makes REBL Outdoor so special is not only the combination of nature and luxury, but also the personal involvement of the owners, who are brothers themselves. Their passion and dedication give the campsite a soul—something you immediately feel upon arrival. As a result, REBL Outdoor is an inspiring example for other campsites and a place where guests can truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle and fully immerse themselves in the peace of nature. That is why, during our visit, we interviewed the two owners and brothers, Robert-Jan.

In the early years, the campsite mainly consisted of glamping tents—beautiful, but seasonal. This led the brothers to look for accommodations that could be rented out year-round. Their choice ultimately fell on Camping Pods, fully equipped with private sanitary facilities and paired wellness options such as a sauna and hot tub. “With the Pods, it became just a bit more luxurious than basic. That’s when we moved from back to basic to back to nature,” says Robert-Jan.

Back to nature with a touch of luxury

In Friesland, brothers Robert-Jan and Casper de Valk enthusiastically run their nature campsite, REBL Outdoor. What began as a spot for tent campers has grown into an inviting location where outdoor living and comfort come together. “Our slogan says it all: back to nature with a touch of luxury,” says Robert-Jan.

Wellness as a main attraction

The addition of wellness facilities proved to be a hit. Guests noticeably preferred the Pod with a hot tub over the standard version. “You could see it immediately in the bookings. The Pod with a hot tub was booked first and furthest in advance,” explains Casper. A shared hot tub didn’t work as well: heating it takes time, and guests are more likely to drop out when extra costs are involved. Now, having wellness directly at the accommodation is much more efficient. “People just want to enjoy it right away,” says Casper.

Advice for other campsites

The most important thing is to align the concept with your own style and surroundings. “I think every location attracts a different audience,” says the owner of REBL Outdoor. In a quiet, nature-rich environment, guests benefit from private sanitary facilities, and wellness works well since there isn’t much else to do in the area.

Extending the season with the Pods

While tents operate only until mid-September, the Pods can be rented year-round. The brothers especially notice the difference in bad weather: guests prefer the comfort of a warm Pod with private sanitary facilities. “When it rains, you’d rather be cozy inside,” says Robert-Jan.

The Pods intentionally do not have kitchens; this encourages guests to come together in the central outdoor kitchen, a greenhouse-like space designed to foster social interaction. This aligns with the brothers’ vision of putting outdoor living at the heart of the experience.

Bookings and challenges

Airbnb is the main sales channel, although REBL Outdoor is also easily found on Booking.com and their own website. A continuing challenge is that guests are critical and online reviews carry significant weight. “We’re just two brothers with families, but online you’re judged as a business,” says Robert-Jan.

Who books the Pods?

The target group mainly consists of people in their thirties: couples, friends’ getaways, and those looking to unwind for a few days. Wellness and private sanitary facilities play a major role in their choice. “Guests deliberately choose comfort, even if the price is a bit higher,” notes Casper.

Delivery and collaboration with Ticra

During their search for a supplier, REBL Outdoor spoke with several companies. Ticra stood out thanks to a customer-friendly payment structure and reliable communication. Despite a winter delivery during which the truck got stuck, the brothers look back positively on the collaboration. “Erwin from Ticra always keeps his word. That’s important to us,” they say.

Features of these Pods:
